Hooked by the Horns

Dear NukeDad,

I had fully anticipated the Buckeyes eating Bevo for dinner last night, but apparently our defensive linemen are vegetarians. Who knew? Oh, that’s right…you did.

Congratulations on the victory. A year which gave Mack Brown his 200th win, and gave Colt McCoy an NCAA record for completions, also gave us Buckeye fans our third bowl loss in a row. You must admit, however, that we gave you a run for your money. You can’t tell me you weren’t a little bit worried. Give our quarterback a couple of years, and then we’ll talk.

At the very least, our band sounded better than yours. Oh, and as far as fans go, you can keep this guy…

Written with graciousness and humility just like I expected. What a game. I’m not going to say that I knew we had it; in fact, the last series (last play, really) required more than 1 2-ply tissue; and not for the reason you would think. 😉

Let’s face it, if there had been a minute or two left after we scored, it probably would have gone the other way. Thanks for the wager and the sportsmanship; but the picture of W wasn’t necessary. He’s transplanted anyway; wasn’t he born in Maine, or something?

  • Weaselmomma

Wow, sorry you ate some crow this morning, but NukeDad was a real gracious winner. I am waiting though to see if he posts a victory dance video on his blog.

  • Piper

Momo’s humble pie tastes sweeter than I expected.

  • K and/or K

    Yes–they can have HIM!

  • Kat

I had to go to espn this morning to see the score cause they don’t broadcast that stuff here. Sorry you had to eat crow.

  • Irish Gumbo

Sorry about the game 🙁 Your concession post was very well done, gracious and beautiful, as we know you are!

BTW, coming from an expert crow eater, I can say that it tastes better with a lot of hot sauce and a liberal application of beer…

  • laurelei

Beautifully done, M! I don’t know if I could’ve been as nice in a concession post…or a victory post, NukeDad. Well done. I’m a Buckeye fan unless they’re playing the Thundering Herd, so I was rooting for ’em hard. Sorry it went down like that, but it was a great game.(I’ve always wondered if a team doesn’t wish they could say, “You’re making us look bad; your fan status is revoked!”)

  • Melisa with one S

    Nicely done, Momo. 🙂

  • Jamie

    Great letter –
Much better than I would have done.

This losing bowl game after bowl game is getting old – and it’s painful.

  • Tenakim

I’m sure that was hard to write, but very gracious- good for you- soory for your team.

  • Sadia

Thanks for the update! I work in the University of Texas Tower, and couldn’t figure out why it was lit up in celebratory orange. Now I know. 🙂

P.S. Not a Longhorn fan; I didn’t grow up around American football, and don’t get it.

  • Rhea

Dude, the person above me works in the UT Tower and didn’t know about the game?!! I’m not a big football person at all, and I had to be hiding under a rock not to know.

Anyway, Longhorns apparently did awesome, but it sounded like a close game. Whew.

  • meleah rebeccah

Yeah…They can KEEP Him! That’s for sure!!

  • nonna

i have to defend sadia or at least join her ranks. i don’t live or work right above one of the stadiums, but i do live kinda in between both states and i had no clue about this game till i saw y’all talking smack 🙂

good job on eating crow while still getting a jab in about the longhorn’s pathetic fan 🙂

  • Heather

AMEN sister. It was a good one. There’s always next year!

  • ♥georgie♥

I ♥ momo she is very gracious…now are you gonna root my sooners on?

  • Captain Dumbass

That had to hurt a little.

  • Tara R.

*sigh* I feel your pain Momo.

  • Lisa@verybusymomwith4

That game was not fun. BUT we beat Michigan–and that is what really counts for a Buckeye 😉

  • Amy

You are a very gracious loser, I could never be. But then again I might not have to, I am a Longhorns fan 🙂

  • Dapoppins

Are we still talking about football?

  • Rachel

    Actually laughing out loud here.

  • Aunt Debbi/kurts mom

UT did not let him in. Seriously.

  • alison

just found your blog and this entry alone has me hooked. (oh god, that was not a texas pun, i swear)
as a fellow buckeye, i will be passing your words of wisdom along to all my depressed friends and family members – so well-written! There were a lot of screams and tears and items being thrown in our house the other night, but we have great hope for next season.

  • PurpleGreenPops.com

Ohio State played better than expected, especially the defense, and Pryor made quite a few plays with his feet.

However, in the end, Colt McCoy made the difference.

I am an East Carolina University fan, and am really looking forward to next season. With a talented roster and many returning seniors and lettermen, the Pirates will most likely be a preseason Top 25 pick.
