This? Is NOT the Redesign

posted by Momo Fali on February 21, 2011

This?  Is me screwing up the hard work of Judith Shakes Designs.

Here’s how it went down…

11:30pm Sunday:  My BlogHer ad is getting cut off in this new template.  I know that Judith Shakes is working on my new, custom design so, for the time being, maybe I can just find a template with a wider right sidebar so my ad will fit.  It can’t be that hard.  WordPress is great!

12:00am Monday:  Wow, I’m really tired and this template with the tree is kind of like my Momo Fali’s tree, even though everything is gray and there is dark green writing and I really don’t like the font or where my pages show up.  Because, hello?!  My ad fits in the sidebar!  Maybe I’ll switch the template and find out how to put in my header and change the colors after the fact.

12:15am Monday:  *Takes Ambien*

12:35am Monday:  This template is AWESOME!  Just because my ad fits!  I’m sure there isn’t any other way for my ad to fit in this space without me COMPLETELY changing the template.  Right?  zzzzz.  Of course not!  zzzzz.  I’m doing it despite the fact that I keep dozing off!  zzzzz.

12:45am Monday:  zzzzz.  Why are these tags at the bottom of my header?  zzzzz.  Who wants to come to a humor blog and find a 9/11 tag right at the top of the page?   Oh here!  This zzzzz archive button zzzzz looks zzzzz like zzzzz the place to change zzzzz it.

1:10am Monday:  Okay, now I’m awake!  That was a good cat nap.  I should eat some Skittles.

1:25am Monday:  Whew.  I’m glad I didn’t change anything without copying it first!  *Copies archives* *Deletes* *Realizes that only one-third of the text got copied* *Don’t know if it was from the middle, beginning or end*  *Deletes everything* *Freaks out*  *Dozes off again*

7:15am Monday:  Ugh.  I’m still so tired and my mouth is all Skittley.  What the…oh no.  WHAT HAVE I DONE?????!!!!!!!

9:30am Monday:  *Slithers, via e-mail to Judith Shakes to apologize profusely for deleting every archive that she just moved over here.*  *Smacks self*  *Vows to never touch area of dashboard that says, “Themes” ever again*

Haaaaa. Sorry. I’m laughing WITH you, not AT you. 😉

You do realize that this is not exactly talking me into moving to WP, which IS on my agenda after multiple discussions at Blissdom. *sigh* So ummm yeah, stay away from that blog template. Because, really, you made me sneeze my toast I was laughing so hard.

I tried to modify one of my pages this weekend and now it dosen’t work. Maybe we should just stick to the writing part of blogging!

    🙂

This is my nightmare, and what’s keeping me from self-hosting.

This is funny! Love reading your blog. I moved to wordpress because the same thing happened to me on blogspot. Good times…

    Hahahahahhahaha. *gasp* Hahahahahahahaha

Hmm.. That’s not very supportive of me, is it?

I think you should hire an assistant to watch over you after you’ve taken your Ambien. 😉

  • BusyDad

The ad is beautiful! (I am a supportive friend)

  • Cris

Oh no! I soo could see myself doing the same thing.

Glad that you have someone to help with wordpress. I’m still figuring it out (probably will take me a lifetime)The ad looks great. Sorry about some of the archives being deleted.

Ah…at least the ad fits, right?

This is why I’ve not changed my boilerplate blog background.

I’m sure I’d screw it UP!

Well, you see, your problem right there was you should have installed the Ambien for WordPress plugin. That would have fixed everything! 🙂

Dork. I dropped BlogHer ads in late 2009 because my header was too big and pushed down their ads. I got tired of angry e-mails about how many pixels etc. up it should be. And Judith Shakes ROCKS. She is my designer too. Did you know that? Did you not recognize her fabulousness on my blog?

    • Momo Fali

I did know that she was your designer. She did my blogspot design too, which is full of total fabulousness!

For the record, BlogHer didn’t tell me to change anything. It was driving ME crazy. See? You’re right. I am a dork.

this makes me want an ambien.

I will be honest with you because you have already made the move and you have someone to help you– I HATED wordpress. EVERYTHING ABOUT IT. But maybe if I had ponied up and had someone to help me, I would have loved it so much. But what you did on Ambien is exactly what I did one night on accident completely sober and I lost everything from http://www.singingwithmyheart.com.

It was devastation and I am still trying to recover from it. We’re talking 5+ years of blogging. *tears up*

And I couldn’t find the backup anywhere. STILL can’t.
    I so feel you.

Now that I’m back on Blogger, I feel so much more at ease. And I don’t think I’ll ever get a .com again anyways, but never say never. LOL!

Good luck! 🙂 Hang in there!

Gotta love that Ambien. So far I have managed to eat, proposition my husband and buy music from iTunes while sleeping. Can ruling the world be far behind? I hope you get things figured out soon. Now hand me the skittles. 🙂

  • Sarah

Skittles are pretty much always the answer, but I’m scared to monkey with anything in the back end (heh) of my blog – because even though WP is lovely and stuff, I’m afraid of making everything go kablooey.

    • Momo Fali

This is why I let Judith Shakes Designs monkey with the back end!

Ah, Ambien. I love me some Ambien, but my mother staged a forcible intervention after I blogged a few times too often about…Ambien. Damn her! And damn wordpress, too, for making it all easy, but not quite easy enough. Oh, the themes I have trashed and the entirely weird sidebar “gidgets” or whatever they are I have installed…

  • Living the Balanced Life

This is too funny! My oldest daughter takes Ambien. She has been warned to stay OFF the computer after she takes it, no matter how coherent she THINKS she is, lol!

I learned a VERY long time ago NEVER to touch ANYTHING in my dashboard that says “Themes” – even if I’m NOT on sleeping pills!
