Call Me Grace

posted by Momo Fali on August 29, 2012

My 13 year old daughter has a bi-fold door for her bedroom closet and when it recently came off the track she picked it up and carried it to the hallway. This seemed a perfectly acceptable place for it, given that the additional space in her room is covered with piles of clothing. And, nailpolish. And, possibly a bag of chips.

It probably also seemed a perfectly acceptable place because it’s also where my husband and I put our footboard and side-rails after we got our new bed. A year ago. That’s right, we used our upstairs hallway as storage for over 12 months. Don’t judge me!

So there my daughter’s closet door stood, perilously rested against the edge of her doorjamb. Last night before I went to bed I thought, I need to move that door, because if she gets up in the middle of the night she’s going to run right into it. Then I edged past it and crept to her bed where I gently removed the text books piled up next to her as she slept.

Then I turned around and walked right into the closet door.

I love it!! Have done that kind of thing SO many times. That’s what you get for trying to be a thoughtful and loving mother. 🙂

But wait…did you ever find the bag of chips??

Lol, I would have done the exact same thing!

Ha! Sounds like my house. Our dining room table has become a messy office over the last few months. We cannot eat at it, because all of our bills, paperwork, mail and random tools (hammer, nailgun, etc.) are on it. So no judging here.

    OOPSIE! 🙂

But did you then move the door? If your mentality/house/crazy storage ideas that don’t resemble normal storage ideas are anything like mine, you did not.

Well, I probably wouldn’t have, but since it came crashing down I didn’t really have a choice. 🙂

Oh, Momo, I just laughed so hard at this. I’m sorry you probably got a boo-boo and everything. But I needed the laugh, so there’s that.

That was awesome, and sounds exactly like our apartment. Just when I got rid of all of the boxes from wedding gifts (mostly, don’t judge we registered with the belief that we needed things we currently don’t have room for. Planning for the future meant I needed a fryer, right?) We now are surrounded by things from relatives who have died and whose homes are being sold. I tripped over a lamp that is waiting to be repurposed then on the 70 lbdog on the way to get water last night. I have the bruised knee to prove it.

Perfect timing! I just walked into a door myself!

Soul sisters. You and me. I so would have done that.
