Dodged that bullet. I totally believe you about the worry about teen years/impulsivity issue — I feel the same way about my daughter. But there’s something so totally disarming and sweet about an 11 year old boy who says “ta ta” in regular conversation. How wild can he get? I know, I know, but still.

I have an 18yr old who has been reckless and unpredictable for the last several years – the teenage years have been HELL for us. But he’s got a good sense of humor and I found he had written REDRUM on my bathroom mirror one day as a joke. I thought it was hilarious and quite brilliant…my husband thought it was pretty creepy and I think he slept with one eye open that night.

I’ve never had to call the fire department, but we do attend the trick or treat hosted at our local fire station. They have a mix of games and safety booths. A practice phone to dial 911, safety stickers for car seats, an ambulance they let kids check out (just in case they get a ride they aren’t as freaked out) also a life flight helicopter. Cool stuff!
